Welcome to Prevention and Wellness Services! Our mission is to help Western students recognize how their health impacts their personal and academic success, become actively involved in their wellness, and contribute to a safe and healthy campus community for all.
The staff of Counseling, Health, and Wellness Services bears witness to the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, and the systems of oppression and racism that led to their murder and the murders of countless Black individuals. We see the violence directed toward African Americans and other people of color and, as health and wellness practitioners, we say this: Black Lives Matter. There can be no health without justice.
For students impacted by the fury and grief of this moment, we are here for you. We are here to listen, to advocate for what is right, and to remain humble in the process. We recognize that actions speak louder than words and want our actions to reflect our commitment to inclusion, a sense of safety, and supporting Black student wellness.
Wellness is more than just avoiding the flu. Wellness is the sum total of all aspects of individual and community wellness, from building personal resilience to cultivating a safe and supportive campus community for all identities.
There are many dimensions of wellness, many ways to achieve wellness, and many ways our wellness is impacted by—and contributes to—the wellness of our larger community. Our goal is to help you discover, learn, and cultivate positive, inclusive, empowering, and sustainable wellness practices at Western and beyond.
